No objection to LoC becoming border: Pak. leader

New Delhi July 19. The chief of Pakistan's Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Fazlur Rehman, today said that his party would have no objection to the conversion of the Line of Control into the International Border provided it was accepted by both India and Pakistan and the people of Kashmir.

"If both the countries agree to it and it is also accepted by the people of Kashmir, we will not have any objection," Mr. Rehman said in a programme on the "Aaj Tak" TV channel.

He was asked if his party had any objection to converting the LoC into the International Border if same was accepted by the two countries.

Mr. Rehman emphasised that the Kashmir issue could be solved through dialogue.

Earlier, Mr. Rehman held long-ranging discussions with the Kashmir Committee headed by the former Union Minister, Ram Jethmalani, to give fresh impetus to the process of finding a "negotiated and durable solution" to the vexed problem. Later, Mr. Rehman and Mr. Jethmalani agreed that "the meeting was a good step forward".

Mr. Jethmalani told PTI that the meeting was reassuring for both the sides which wanted peace and durable and honourable solution to the Kashmir problem.

"What is now known is that to what extent both sides will move directly for a settlement on the Kashmir issue."
