Freedom fighter dead

KOCHI JULY 20. Gandhian and freedom fighter D. Ramachandran Potty died here today. He was 80.

He participated in the Quit India Movement and the Mysore March taken out to Bangalore in support of the Movement for Responsible Government. He was jailed in Bangalore.

Between 1947-54, he worked with the Socialist Party under Jayaprakash Narayan, the Praja Socialist Party and the Bharath Sevak Samaj. Later, he joined the Sarvodaya movement and promoted Gandhian ideas. Between 1970-75, he was the chairman of the Kerala Sarvodaya Mandal. He was imprisoned during Emergency. While in Delhi, he was involved with the Amnesty International, Peoples Union for Civil Liberties, Citizens for Democracy and other human rights organisations apart from Gandhian organisations.
