Sharon coming on Sept. 9

New Delhi July 20. In a first-ever visit by a Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon will visit India from September 9 to hold talks on a wide range of issues, including counter-terrorism and defence co-operation.

Mr. Sharon's three-day visit will be the first highest-level contact between the countries after the then Israeli President Ezer Wiezman's 1997 tour, five years after the two countries established diplomatic relations.

The Israeli Premier, who is coming at the invitation of the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, will call on the President, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, and is expected to have separate meetings with the Deputy Prime Minister, L. K. Advani, and other Ministers. A high-level business delegation is likely to accompany Mr. Sharon, sources in Tel Aviv said. — PTI
