Letters to the Editor
Sir, Adverting to the article, "Not our war" by V.R. Krishna Iyer ( July 14 ) wherein Donald Rumsfeld is quoted as having said, "The absence of evidence is not evidence of absence." In a smart turn of phraseology reminiscent of Derrida's "deconstruction", Mr. Rumsfeld has once again reminded us of the incoherence of the written word in this age of "dumbing down" wherein a maverick politician can deconstruct a text to manipulate millions. Bush Senior and his infamous "Read my lips", and now Bush Junior and Company, it seems, are quite adept in the art of "deconstruction." Aradhana Khanna, Lucknow
