Special Adviser to U.N. chief

United Nations July 22. The U.N. Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, has appointed Nitin Desai, Undersecretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, as his Special Adviser for the World Summit on the Information Society, which aims to bridge the digital divide between the rich and the poor. Mr. Desai was the secretary-general of the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg last year. — UNI
