BALI (Indonesia): Peace broker Malaysia will give the Philippine Government and a Muslim rebel group dates for peace negotiations in the next few days, with talks likely to start in Kuala Lumpur as early as next week, the Philippine Foreign Secretary said on Wednesday. Blas Ople said the Malaysian Prime Minister, Mahathir Mohamad, himself would set the dates for the talks between Philippine negotiators and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front ``in the next few days.'' The two parties signed a cease-fire agreement on July 20 and are now due to enter talks in Malaysia to forge a permanent settlement. Speaking on the sidelines of an Asia-Europe summit here, Mr. Ople said his Government had already issued ``safe passage'' passes for 12 rebel leaders. Arrest warrants for rebels suspected of involvement in terrorist activities have also been dropped, he said. Among the rebel leaders involved in the peace talks are MILF head, Hashim Salamat, and spokesman, Eid Kabalu . AP
