Ms. Taylor, who alleged that the serial was a plagiarised version of her novel, "Woman of Substance", had filed a special leave petition in the apex court against the impugned judgment, seeking stay of the telecast of the serial. A Bench, comprising Justice N. Santosh Hegde and Justice B.P. Singh, which heard the SLP today, was informed by A.K. Ganguly, senior counsel for Ms. Taylor, that the High Court was yet to furnish a copy of the order. On July 21, the Bench had declined to stay the High Court order, stating that "unless we examine the High Court order, we will not be passing any interim order". When even today it was submitted that a copy of the order had not been furnished, the Bench asked the High Court to do so by next Friday and posted the case for further hearing on August 4. A Division Bench of the High Court while allowing telecast of the Rs. 60-crore serial starring Bollywood star Karishma Kapoor, also asked Ms. Taylor to pay damages for the delay in the serial's telecast as well as the litigation cost.
