'Vested interests conspiring to derail J&K peace process'

By Our Staff Reporter

JAMMU JULY 25. The All-Party Hurriyat Conference chairman, Moulvi Abbas Ansari, said today that the sudden escalation in violence in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the Jammu region, was an attempt to derail the peace process started by the leaders of India and Pakistan.

Talking to The Hindu, he said: "We think it is a conspiracy of vested interests to derail the peace process started by both countries. The people of the State are hoping for the start of a sincere process between the two countries to solve the Jammu and Kashmir problem''. Terming the perpetrators of the militant acts as enemies to the cause of the people of the State, he said: "Those who attack innocent people are, in fact, the enemies of any cause or movement. They only malign themselves or any cause they represent. We cannot support this process of mindless and inhuman killings of women and children. These people need to be weeded out. We have no alignment with these kind of forces and we distance ourselves from them".

He appealed to India and Pakistan to observe restraint. "The attacks provoke passions and are an attempt to create a wedge between the two countries.

``But we will be playing into evil hands if we follow in this direction.
