Geelani wants a 'just solution'

By Our Staff Reporter

Jammu July 26. The former Chairman of the All-Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and senior Jamaat-e-Islami leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, has assured the Centre the support of his cadres if it comes up with an "alternative solution" to the Kashmir issue that is acceptable to the people of the State.

Addressing a rally in the Tral area of Pulwama district, he said that it was the responsibility of every Kashmiri leader to play a role in solving the issues and "if New Delhi suggests an alternative solution that is acceptable, Kashmiri people may consider it." But the solution should be "just and match the aspirations and expectations of the people".

"We are asking for our right, what we were promised, and not a dole from anybody."

"I do not believe in geographical and religious divisions of the State. We want the entire State to be together and unitedly fight against the injustice being meted to the people. But if some regions (Jammu and Ladakh) do not want to be with us, we would not compel them."

He felt that the late Sheikh Abdullah's decision to side with New Delhi was wrong and blamed him for the people's sufferings.

"Had he not taken the wrong decision, things would have been different today."
