Jammu & Kashmir
By Our Staff Reporter
Speaking at a prize distribution ceremony of Kashmir Open 2003 Golf here this afternoon, the Mufti said, "dialogue is the best means to bring peace in the State. This has been accepted by every one, including those who are considered hardliners." While the external dimension of the problem could be solved through a dialogue between India and Pakistan, it was equally important to address the internal dimension as the people of Jammu and Kashmir have a stake in peace. There should be consensus on the strategy for peace, the Chief Minister said.
Call to open LoC
The All-Party Hurriyat Conference chairman, Moulvi Abbas Ansari, has said that the Line of Control should be opened to let the people on both sides of the border meet each other and called this essential for bringing a final solution to the J&K issue. "The border on both sides of the State should be made a porous one and movement allowed. Now, as the two countries have resumed their road links it has brought immense relief to the people, the peace process needs to be given a push," he said. He also appealed to the Central Government to call for a ceasefire in the State and said the militants should respond to the gesture.
