Uttar Pradesh
While the district administration has confirmed only four deaths, residents of `H' block Jankipuram, from where most of the deaths were reported, claimed seven people have died since yesterday. The residents complained that they had been receiving `dirty water' for the past fortnight due to leakage in sewer lines which got mixed with the main water supply. The state water resources department has confirmed the residents' claim. Meanwhile, angry residents of Jankipuram have decided to fax a letter to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to register their protest. The district authorities had deputed senior officials to take stock of the situation and oversee provision of medical facilities to those taken ill. Deputy chief medical officer (DCMO) S P Bhaskar said the fault had since been rectified and efforts were on to provide better sanitation facilities in the area.
