Five-day water supply for 'Adi Perukku'

By Our Special Correspondent

Chennai July 29. In a special release for ``Adi Perukku'' festivities, the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, has ordered that the Mettur dam be opened and 2000 cusecs released daily from today to August 3.

In a statement here, the Chief Minister said the dam had a storage of 6884 million cubic feet and received 2049 cusecs as of July 29.

The public had sent several petitions urging the Government to open the dam to let water course through the Cauvery during the Adi Perukku festivities and tackle the water scarcity in Erode and Karur municipalties and in Tiruchi Corporation areas.

In deference to their pleas, the Government had ordered discharge of water from the dam for five days from today.
