AICTE clears transfer of GGR, Kalsar college students

By K. Ramachandran

CHENNAI July 29. The All-India Council for Technical Education has given its concurrence for transfer of "willing students" of the GGR College of Engineering, Vellore, and the Kalsar College of Engineering, Kancheepuram, to other AICTE-approved institutions.

The transfer would be effected through counselling to be held at Guindy here on July 31. The decision was taken by the inter-agency High-Level Committee, under the chairmanship of the State Director of Technical Education, S.K. Prabhakar.

The committee met here on Monday mainly to decide on the procedure for the transfer, M. Ravichandran, Director, AICTE Southern Region, Chennai, said.

The students submitted a memorandum to the Anna University and the State technical education administration, listing several complaints against their colleges and sought transfer to other institutions.

The State high-level committee, comprising the DTE, the AICTE regional head and the Anna University Registar, was formed recently to iron out differences among different agencies involved in technical education.

On an earlier occasion, when students of a Tiruvallur college were transferred to other institutions, the AICTE took the stand that it alone could make any change in intake of approved institutions.

So the inter-agency committee was formed to resolve disputes over transfer.

Transfer pleas would take into consideration the eligibility of students and colleges, where vacant seats were available in the same category (OC/BC/MBC/SC/ST) on the day or on any later date on which the student appeared for admission under the single window system last year or before.

This would be subject to a maximum of six students in each branch in the borrowing institution.

Also students would be transferred in the same (reservation) category in which they got selected previously.

The management quota students of the two institutions would be treated on a par with "payment category students", Dr. Ravichandran said.

The AICTE sought the vacancy position of eligible institutions from the Secretary, Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions.
