'Mix-up' in cut-off year, 56 recruits sacked

By Our Staff Reporter

NAMAKKAL JULY 29. The Namakkal district administration terminated the appointment of 56 persons, who were recruited during the strike period due to a "mix-up'' in the seniority cut-off year.

According to official sources, the administration appointed 126 persons on a consolidated basis to counter the government employees' strike launched from July 2. But on verification, 56 of them, mostly assistants and junior assistants, were found to have joined duty in various departments with 1984 as the cut-off year.

Hence the administration served termination orders to all 56 employees on Monday and appointed a fresh batch of candidates, who got registered in 1979.

An official claimed that owing to some confusion in the Employment office at the time of the strike, candidates who were registered in 1984 were given appointments.

The fault, however, was rectified now, he added.

Meanwhile, the sacked employees, who had already worked for about 20 days in various departments, expressed anguish at the administration's decision.
