The state unit general secretary, G. Kumaravelu, said Ms. Jayalalithaa's "uncompromising attitude" on national issues deserved praise. "We want this to be continued", he said in a statement. She had already stated that a foreigner should not become the Prime Minister of the country and brought in a law against forcible religious conversion. Appreciating the AIADMK leader's support for efforts at enacting a common civil code, Mr. Kumaravelu urged the Congress and the Left parties to give up treating minorities as vote-banks and instead act in the national interest on such matters, taking the example of Ms. Jayalalithaa.
