Joint patrol modalities: Dhaka yet to respond

By Our Special Correspondent

NEWDELHI JULY 30. Though Bangladesh has agreed in principle for joint patrolling of the Indo-Bangladesh border, modalities were yet to be worked out, the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, told the Rajya Sabha today.

Intervening during question hour, he said the Border Security Force and the Bangladesh Rifles have agreed for joint patrolling of the border. "We have sent a proposal to Bangladesh for working out the modalities. So far, we have not received any reply," he said.

Replying to supplementaries, Mr. Advani said the Centre was in constant touch with the border States and assured that whatever companies of BSF were available would be deployed in accordance with the requirement. "We are conscious of the need of Tripura and we are in constant touch with the Tripura Government," he said. Tripura has a running border with Bangladesh.
