Sinha leaves for Syria, Turkey

NEW DELHI JULY 31. The External Affairs Minister, Yashwant Sinha, left tonight for Syria and Turkey. He will be in Syria from August 1 to 4 and in Turkey on August 5 and 6. During the Syrian leg of his visit, Mr. Sinha is scheduled to call on the President, Bashar Assad, and the Prime Minister, Mustafa Miro. He will hold bilateral consultations with the Syrian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Farouk Al-Shara.

``India and Syria have historically close and friendly relations...Syria has consistently condemned acts of terrorism in India and has shown sensitivity to our concerns in the OIC (Organisation of Islamic Conference) and other Islamic fora,'' an official statement said.
