Vajpayee, Advani pay tributes to Paramhans

NEW DELHI JULY 31. Expressing deep shock at the death of Mahant Paramhans Ramchandra Das, the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, today said the contribution of the Hindu leader towards the Ram Janmabhoomi movement will be etched in golden letters.

Describing him as ``firm like a mountain and affectionate like the river Sarayu'', the Prime Minister recalled that the Mahant had been extremely benevolent towards him.The Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, said, ``the death of the Mahant has deeply shocked me. Paramhansji was very firm in whatever he said and kind and affectionate to all.''.

The Uttar Pradesh Governor, Vishnukant Shastri, and the Chief Minister, Mayawati, expressed grief over the demise of the Mahant. The Governor in a statement said his deeds in the field of religion would be remembered forever. In her condolence message, the Chief Minister said the Mahant was not only a saint, but also a patriotic individual from the core of his heart.
