Golf
Briefing the press on Thursday, K. Srinivasan, the golf captain, said GNC was probably the first non-golf club in the city to conduct a golf event. "More than 70 of our members are keen golfers, so we decided to host a tournament. Near 200 entries, including 15 from ladies, have been received for the handicap (maximum 24) event to be played on the Stableford format." The categories are gold (handicap up to nine), silver (10 to 18) and bronze (19 & above) for men and division I (up to 12) and division II (13 & above) for women. There will also be prizes for the longest drive on the second hole and nearest to the pin on the fourth. Play is over two sessions (6.15 a.m. & 1.15 p.m.). V. Shivakumar, the club secretary, also spoke on the occasion.
