By Our Special Correspondent
Responding to a calling attention motion from K. A. Chandran (Congress), the Chief Minister said the Government was in receipt of the report of the three-member technical committee constituted to study the water level and other technical parameters. The committee had reported that Tamil Nadu was taking more than its legitimate share of water. This was against the provisions of the agreement between the two States, but Kerala had decided against going in arbitration, as that would prove time consuming. The State wished to take the matter to a negotiated settlement, he said. LIC-aided schemes: The Water Resources Minister, T. M. Jacob, told V. C. Kabeer (Cong.-S) that the Government was exploring ways to secure a bank loan to complete the LIC-aided water supply schemes that still remained incomplete. He said instructions had been issued to the authorities to speed up the work on the Ottappalam drinking water supply scheme. Although launched with an estimated cost of Rs. 68 lakhs, the project was now estimated to cost Rs. 3.20 crores. The Government would also speed up the work on the Rs. 3.61-crore Vaniyamkulam drinking water supply scheme, he said.
