Andhra Pradesh-Hyderabad
By Our Special Correspondent
The new road, passing along the railway track behind the Rangareddy Collectorate, is expected to ease traffic pressure on the circular route to a considerable extent, and the road laying works will gain momentum once the Rangareddy Collectorate hands over part of its compound for road widening. During the high-level City Coordination Committee visit on Friday, top officials of various departments visited the site and suggested that the road connecting the Rangareddy Collectorate side and Khairatabad `Ganesh' Junction could also be developed so that motorists could avoid BJR College - Khairatabad Junction route, which is already congested. The committee's visit, which exclusively focussed on traffic junction improvements at several places, felt that road-widening works had to be speeded up and decided to remove traffic policeman booths at several road junctions, which had been practically lying unused. The committee spent time discussing various possibilities of improving vehicular flow at junctions of Lakdikapul, Khairatabad, Monappa Island, Greenlands and the traffic conflict point at Villa Marie College on the Raj Bhavan road. The MCH Commissioner, Chitra Ramachandran, explained to the team that works for laying a road connecting Raj Bhavan locality to Balkampet would be taken up shortly after calling for tenders. Later, talking to reporters, the Mayor, T. Krishna Reddy, said the MCH had already widened 154 road stretches out of the identified 184. Works pertaining to ROBs at Sitaphalmandi and Jamai Osmania would pick up momentum shortly. The Commissioner of Police, M.V. Krishna Rao, the Additional Commissioner, D.T. Nayak, the DCP Traffic, K. Sreenivasa Reddy, the HMWSSB Managing Director, M.G. Gopal, the APSRTC City Regional Manager, Panduranga Murty, a Transco official, Srinivas Rao, and others were present.
