Stanford alumni meet on Aug. 6

By Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore Aug. 2 . Azim Premji, Mukesh Ambani, Naushad Forves, Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Nadir Godrej do not need an introduction.

Other than being successful in their respective domains, they are among the more than one thousand strong Stanford alumni in India.

Till recently, there was no formal large event where they could come together, network, and widen their horizons.

All that will change with the first ever Stanford alumni meet to be held in Bangalore on August 6, under the Stanford Asia Technology Initiative (ATI).

Stanford, often called the "cradle of the Silicon Valley", is known for its events, which cultivated entrepreneurship.

Now the successful model is being replicated in India, aptly in Bangalore, the most likely candidate for the Silicon Valley name this side of the world.

The alumni meet will witness great bonding and networking.

Nishant Vijay Berlia, Business Development Director-India of Stanford AIT comments: "The alumni in India are bound by a common factor. Each of them is leaders in their respective fields and contribute immensely to economic growth in many ways. This meet is a great platform for interaction with each other in terms of gaining perspectives of new trends, identifying mentors, or discovering fresh new ideas and talent. We intend to make it a regular feature."

The alumni meet will have brief remarks by Mr. Premji and a senior representative of Stanford.

The meet will be followed by a one-day Global Entrepreneurship Conference on August 7 on "Leading the World: Building a Technology Tiger".

Confirmed speakers include N.R. Narayana Murthy of Infosys, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw of Biocon, S. Ramadorai of TCS, and Ranjit Pandit of McKinsey and some senior professors from Stanford.

The Asia Technology Initiative is a group of highly motivated students and faculty members from Stanford University.

They seek to cultivate global entrepreneurs by engaging Stanford and its peer institutions across the Pacific in real-world ventures and by bringing the world's entrepreneurial community to Stanford's doorstep.

As part of this programme, every summer, some Stanford students go to Asia to explore the powerful synergy between technology and entrepreneurship in the Asian context.

Right now, two students are working with TCS and two others with Biocon, in Bangalore.
