The Navy deployed two warships for security off Maputo, Mozambique, during the summit meeting of the Organisation of African Union from July 4 to 12. The deployment was made after the President of Mozambique, Joaquim Alberto Chissanoa, requested assistance from the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, in May. The presence of 53 heads of African states at Maputo was the major reason for requesting the Navy to help secure the maritime frontiers of Mozambique during the summit.
