Letters to the Editor
Sir, Refer to your editorial " CBI and deja vu " (Aug. 2). There is no point in blaming the agency as long as it comes under the close scrutiny of the powers that be. Despite all talk of the CBI's independent working sans political interference, the fact is that it is guided and monitored. The CBI can at best be referred to as the Centre-backed investigation.
V. S. Jayaraman,
Sir, By narrating in detail the background of the Babri Masjid demolition, you have exposed the CBI's volte face in the case. It is a fact that all parties which come to power at the Centre remorselessly use the CBI for protecting their interests. There have been precedents where investigation and prosecution have been monitored by the judiciary directly. This should be made compulsory in all cases involving people in authority.
M. K. B. Nambiar,
