'Dawood gang members' acquitted

Mumbai Aug. 4. Rejecting prosecution evidence, a sessions court here today acquitted seven alleged members of the Dawood Ibrahim gang of the charge of conspiracy to kill the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani.

Judge M.V. Marathe, acquitting the accused, observed that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges of conspiracy and waging war against the nation.

The court pulled up the police for their lapses and discarded evidence given by the prosecution. The judge observed that the FIR appeared to be ``concocted'' and it did not mention that the accused had planned to kill Mr. Advani. — PTI
