The party's State unit president, Rajendrasinh Rana, and the Education Minister, Anandiben Patel, said the dharna would be held for three hours in the morning the same day the pradesh Congress has given a call for a "village bandh" and "raasta roko" to protest the power tariff hike in the farm sector. The idea behind organising the dharna apparently is to dilute the effect of the Congress-sponsored agitation which has weakened considerably after the Government set up a Cabinet sub-committee for "negotiations" with the farm leaders. Mr. Rana said that at the end of the dharna, the party workers would submit a memorandum to each collector to protest the NHRC move. Asked about the Government stand on the Best Bakery case judgment by the Vadodara fast track court, Ms. Patel said the Government was "considering" an appeal against it in the High Court. The NHRC had taken a hasty step in approaching the apex court without waiting for the Government's next move within the stipulated period of 60 days. The party would also conduct a "poll" on August 9 here to ascertain the people's views on the issue of a uniform civil code.
