By Our Diplomatic Correspondent
NEW DELHI
AUG. 7.
Lt. Gen. V.R. Raghavan (retd.), strategic analyst, has been elected to the Council of the International Institute of Strategic Studies (IISS), London.
Previous to his election, (the late) J.N. Chaudhuri, Chief of the Army Staff, during the 1965 war with Pakistan, and Shekhar Gupta, Editor of The Indian Express, have been the only Indians to have been on the Council.
A statement from the Delhi Policy Group, where Lt. Gen. Raghavan is the Director, said today that his appointment was for three years, beginning October this year.
Lt. Gen. Raghavan (retd.) has served as Director-General of Military Operations (DGMO) in New Delhi from 1992-94 and was the commanding general at Siachen and Kargil during the late 1980s.
