Mauritius girl safe after heart surgery

By Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore Aug. 7. Noor Fathima has returned to Pakistan with her heart mended. Meanwhile, another two-year-old girl, Janita Yencrasamy, from Mauritius has undergone surgery in another hospital here to overcome a more serious heart condition.

"Janita was a blue baby born with holes in her heart and with a condition which blocked normal supply of blood to her lungs. She could not feed or play like other children," says Dev Anand, the cardio-thoracic surgeon who performed the surgery. Janita's parents brought her first to the Manipal Hospital when she was two months old. She went through a surgery then but the problem persisted as she grew up. She underwent a surgery on Tuesday and after a spell in the ICU, has been taken off the life support system now. Doctors are confident that she will be a normal child from now on.
