The BJP spokesperson, V.K. Malhotra, pointed out that the Lok Sabha was stalled even in the midst of a debate on atrocities against Dalits even though the Opposition had wanted that debate. He also termed as "unacceptable'' the Opposition demand that the Prime Minister should respond to a debate on the Public Accounts Committee controversy related to the Kargil war defence purchases. The Defence Minister, George Fernandes, was willing to make a statement on the issue, he insisted. Mr. Malhotra said that all documents, including minutes of the PAC meetings, should be tabled in Parliament. He pointed out that the last time a discussion relating to a report of the PAC took place in Parliament was in 1966, after a Minister's statement.
