Urging industry bodies to graduate out of their ``gripe and grievance syndrome'', the Governor, inaugurating the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Andhra Chamber of Commerce, said, as ``public policies cannot be developed in isolation'', the chambers should provide adequate inputs for the process. This apart, Mr. Rao listed corporate governance, especially in terms of ``harmonising the interest of all stakeholders'', as yet another measure on which the chambers should focus their attention. Simultaneously, companies in the manufacturing sector should ``do much more than what has been done to improve the quality of the goods'' and price them at rates that were competitive, the Governor said. The firms, he added, must ``forget the legacy systems'', which were driven by policies aimed at making the country self-reliant and dispense social justice and instead look at the future with an eye on fighting for a share of the opportunities. The Governor released a souvenir brought out by the chamber to mark the platinum jubilee and honoured its secretary, M.S. Sambasivam, who had been associated with it for 59 years. The Andhra Chamber of Commerce president, C. Venkatachalam, said, ``the chamber hopes to serve in the future as in the past, as a vital link between Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The chamber, with over 1,300 members and over 50 affiliated industry and trade associations, he added, however, ``never regarded itself as an organisation purely serving regional, linguistic or parochial interests''. The chairman of the platinum jubilee celebrations committee, V.L. Dutt, listed the programmes organised by the chamber during the year. The platinum jubilee year, he added, commenced on August 17, 2002. The vice-president, S. S. Rajsekar, said various dignitaries including the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, had sent messages wishing the chamber.
