BJP seeks ban on soft drinks

By Our Staff Reporter

Pondicherry Aug. 9. The president of the Pondicherry unit of the BJP, R. Kesavalu, today called upon the administration to ban the sale of soft drinks.

Addressing newsmen here today, Mr. Kesavalu said the youth wing of the party would soon take out a pada yatra to explain to the people the necessity to avoid consumption of the soft drinks.

There was no fresh enumeration of families for distribution of new ration cards and welfare schemes meant for the poor were not properly implemented.

He referred to the instance of the twenty kg free rice for the people below poverty line becoming out of reach for the targeted group as the red colour cards (identifying the families as those coming under below poverty line category) were not sanctioned properly. The party State committee secretary, Ragu Sundararaman, who was also present at the press conference, said the constituency-level committees of the party would be formed soon and the presidents of these committees would elect the State-level president of BJP in September.
