M.Ashokan, Commissioner, told The Hindu that it was also proposed to construct four culverts and provide lighting arrangements at a cost of Rs.37 lakhs. The Commissioner said the pedestrian walk platforms over stormwater drains would be provided in Annai Indira Gandhi, West Raja, East Raja, Kamarajar, Sengaluneerodai, Vallal Pachiappan and Salai Streets and Railway Road at a cost of Rs.2.82 crores. The municipality had been creating awareness among the residents of installing rainwater harvesting system in their buildings. Out of 26,000 buildings, including Government, residential, commercial and private, RWH system had been provided in about 40 per cent of these buildings. S. Sabestine, Regional Director of Municipal Administration, had convened a meeting a few days ago with the municipal officials and reviewed the progress of implementation of the RWH in Kancheepuram.
