The police said Akhtar (35) was picked up following investigation into several complaints of car and two-wheeler thefts from the Mambalam and Pondy Bazaar areas. Two cars and 10 two-wheelers were recovered from him. Many of the vehicles were sold off to people in Tirupathur, the police said. The Mambalam police arrested the driver of a doctor, who allegedly stole the doctor's car and sold it off in Kozhikode. The vehicle was recovered. The police said Ravi, the driver, had taken a duplicate copy of the car key and had taken away the car from doctor's house in T.Nagar when the inmates were busy. He had quit the job a few days before the incident, they added.
Held for attacking policeman
The police have arrested two persons for allegedly attacking a head constable, attached to the Pulianthope station. According to the police, Anandan and Venkatesan of Pulianthope allegedly attacked Thangaraj, while he was on patrolling duty, a few days ago. A special party arrested the two on Friday. They were remanded to custody.
