LeT 'conduits' held in Delhi

NEW DELHI AUG. 11. Two persons, alleged to be Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) conduits, have been arrested and a Chinese pistol and a wireless set seized from them near Palika Bazar in Connaught Place here. The two, who had allegedly escaped after an encounter with the Jammu and Kashmir police in July, had come here looking for a safe hideout. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi, Manoj K. Lall, the police were tipped-off that two LeT militants would hand over their weapons and wireless sets to an accomplice near Gate No. 1 of Palika Bazar around 10 p.m. on Sunday.

A team under the supervision of the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Niranjan Singh, was formed and a trap set near Palika Bazar. When the two suspected militants arrived there, they were overpowered and arrested.

During interrogation, the duo allegedly identified themselves as Aftab Ahmed and Altaf Hussain, residents of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir. The police claim to have recovered a .30 Chinese-make pistol and seven live cartridges from Altaf's possession and a bag containing a wireless set of a foreign make along with literature and other belongings.The duo confessed that they were LeT conduits.
