Held for making fake car gas conversion kits

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI AUG. 11. The city police cracked down on a car gas conversion kit manufacturing company and arrested its owner and five others on charges of manufacturing fake kits using the trademark of an international brand.

A press release said, based on a complaint by the director of the original multinational company, the police raided the premises of R.K.Motors in Anna Nagar and recovered fake kits. The owner, S.Karthikeyan, was arrested along with Jayakumar and Vimal. Later, the police also picked up Balakrishnan in T.Nagar and S.Murali in Royapettah on charges of distributing the fake product.

In another raid, the Anna Nagar police arrested four persons of a family at Thirumangalam for allegedly cheating people to the tune of Rs. 20 lakhs promising them a mode of self-employment.

A police statement said they advertised under the banner of Indian Candles that they would train local individuals to manufacture candles and provide them with raw materials on payment of a deposit of Rs. 5,000. The products too could be sold to them. But, using loopholes in the business contract, they would reject the products, to force a termination of the deal. The deposit amount was not returned in most cases.

The police said, the arrested had cheated 579 persons this year alone.
