Aerated drinks to be tested for pesticides

By Ramya Kannan

CHENNAI AUG. 12. Health Department officials have begun lifting random samples of 12 varieties of aerated drinks throughout the State for testing.

Health officers of the Chennai Corporation picked up the samples here.

In other cities, the staff of the civic bodies have been instructed to pick up the soft drinks.

The samples will be sent to the Central Food and Technology Research Institute Laboratory in Mysore and analysed for presence of pesticides.

This decision was taken at a high-level meeting with the Chief Minister today.

"The results will be available in 10 days, depending on the volume of samples lifted throughout the State," according to officials at the Directorate of Public Health.
