Shahbuddin surrenders

By Our Staff Correspondent

PATNA Aug. 13. The RJD MP, Mohammed Shahbuddin, surrendered before a local court today in connection with four criminal cases in which non-bailable arrest warrants were pending against him before the Siwan Chief Judicial Magistrate, who remanded him to 14 days judicial custody. The Siwan strongman gave himself up in two separate cases of the murder of CPI(ML) workers, a bank dacoity case and the assault of a police officer while intending to arrest an absconder.

Last week, the District and Sessions Judge had rejected his anticipatory bail petition which he had sought in the wake of the DGP, D.P. Ojha's order for execution of the arrest warrant in the Munna Chaudhary murder case (CPI-ML activist) of 2001 about a fortnight ago.

Accompanied by the Minister of State for Welfare, Ejajul Haq, whose role the police is probing in one of the murder cases, the RJD MP addressed his supporters on his way to court.
