The Madras High Court permitted him to stay at the house of his relative, Murasoli Selvam, at J.P. Nagar, here on condition he present himself before a court every day. Mr. Azhagiri, who arrived here this morning, came to the court at 11 a.m., accompanied by his lawyer and K.P. Ramalingam, former MP. The judge, Keshavanarayan, told the lawyer he could not allow Mr. Azhagiri to sign the register without verifying his identity. He was not satisfied with newspaper clippings showing photographs of Mr. Azhagiri, and asked for other supporting documents. Mr. Azhagiri and his lawyer appeared in the court again in the afternoon, bringing with them the required documents and submitted an affidavit. He was then allowed to sign the register and leave. Earlier, there was a scuffle between some DMK activists and press photographers in the court as Mr Azhagiri's followers did not want any photos taken and arguments were exchanged.
