Two killed, 46 injured in J&K blasts

By Our Staff Reporter

Jammu Aug. 13. One person was killed and 40 persons, including seven security personnel, were injured in an IED blast triggered by militants in Baramulla district of north Kashmir this afternoon.

The impact of the bomb planted in a bicycle at the crowded Bandipora Chowk also damaged property in the vicinity.

The condition of seven persons admitted to the Srinagar hospital was said to be serious.

A massive search operation was launched immediately and security in and around Jammu and Srinagar has been strengthened.

The Al-Mansooran militant outfit, said to be a shadow organisation of the Lashkar-e-Taiba which had a hand in the Kaluchak massacre last year, has claimed responsibility for the blast.

The Bakshi Stadium where the main Independence Day celebrations would be held at Srinagar has become a fortified zone as also the Parade Ground at Jammu.

PTI reports from Srinagar:

A 30-year-old youth, Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, was killed and six pedestrians injured when militants exploded a grenade at Koimoh village in Kulgam area of Anantnag district in south Kashmir this afternoon, the sources added. They said the grenade was lobbed by militants on a security patrol but it missed the intended target and exploded on the road at 12:15 hours injuring seven persons. Wani succumbed to his wounds on the way to hospital.
