Independence Day dress rehearsal held

A police officer adjusting his colleague's headdress during a full dress rehearsal on Wednesday in front of the historic Red Fort in New Delhi for the Independence Day celebrations.

New Delhi, Aug 13. A full dress rehearsal for the Independence Day celebrations in the capital was held today in front of the historic Red Fort.

As part of the effort to ensure incident-free celebrations, the capital's skies would be fully sanitised, with flight operations remaining suspended during the main function at the Red Fort in the morning and the President's at-home in the evening.

Special Commissioner of Police (Security) S K Kain told reporters here today that air traffic would remain suspended from 0400 hrs till 1000 hrs on August 15, by which time the function was likely to conclude.

The function at the Red Fort is likely to start at around 0700 hrs and continue till about 0830 hrs. Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee will unfurl the national tricolour at around 0730 hrs and then address the nation from the ramparts of the historic fort.
