``Should the Government of Pakistan respond positively, the Government of India would provide immediate cooperation through its capabilities, equipment and materials, including pollution response equipment, dispersants, containment booms...,'' the External Affairs Ministry spokesman said today. He said that as a gesture of cooperation and in line with the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee's peace initiative, the Government had offered to deal with environmental and other hazards created by the oil spill. A tanker, Tasman Spirit, had been grounded outside the Karachi channel since July 27 and reports from Karachi said the ship had broken up.It was carrying some 67,000 tonnes of crude oil.Pakistan High Commission officials confirmed India's offer and conveyed New Delhi's desire to help Islamabad. They said the External Affairs Ministry was informed of the crisis this morning. The possibility that the oil slick might move into Indian territorial waters was also conveyed to the Ministry of External Affairs.
