Delhi HC stays notice against Solanki in Bofors case

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI AUG. 14. The Delhi High Court today stayed the operation of a notice issued to the former External Affairs Minister, Madhavsinh Solanki, by a Special court for CBI cases here, on a plea for prosecuting him for his alleged attempt to influence investigation into the Bofors gun deal in 1992.

Staying the lower court proceedings on a petition challenging the issuance of the notice by Mr. Solanki through his counsel, Kapil Sibal, Justice J.D. Kapoor also issued notice to the investigating agency for September 23.

The CBI has sought permission from the trial court to prosecute Mr. Solanki for handing over a ``fabricated document'' to then Swiss Foreign Minister, Rene Felber, in an alleged attempt to ``influence investigation into the gun deal.''

The Special Judge, Prem Kumar, had on July 29 asked Mr. Solanki to file a reply to the CBI's application by August 18.
