The award instituted to promote arts, literature, science and humanities carries Rs.1 lakh and a citation. Prof. Ramaraju will also receive the Dr. K. V. Rao and Dr. Jyoti Rao Award of $ 2,000. Prof. Ramaraju has been instrumental in enriching the Telugu folklore and literature. He has authored many books and edited some. His thesis was on `Telugu Janapada geya sahityam.' A freedom fighter, Prof. Ramaraju had won several honours earlier. Brahmasri Edidi Suryanarayana Murty, a renowned vedic scholar, has been selected for the Lakshmi-Raja Vaidika Puraskaram for 2003.
