A team of five workmen has been selected for the Shram Ratna award, two entries have been selected for the Shram Bhushan award, six for the Shram Vir awards and eight for Shram Shri/Shram Devi awards. Even though the total number of Shram awards is only 17, the number of workmen receiving the awards is 38, including two women. The highest award, Shram Ratna has been given to a team of workmen from the Bhilai Steel Plant, Chhattisgarh. The award carries Rs. 2 lakhs and citation. The Shram Bhushan award, carrying Rs. 1 lakh and a citation, has been given to teams from Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Bangalore and the Southern Railway, Coonoor. The Shram Vir award, carrying Rs. 60,000 and a citation, goes to a team at the Nuclear Fuel Complex in Hyderabad, a team at the Bhilai Steel Plant in Bhilai, the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre at Trombay, the Bokaro Steel Plant, the BHEL at Bangalore and the Neyveli, Tiruchi, Salem and Pondicherry plants of the Power Grid Corporation of India. Two women workers from HMT, Bangalore and the Diesel Component Works, Patiala have been selected for Shram Devi award while workers of the Bharat Electronics Ltd of Bangalore, ITI Manakpur, BHEL Hardware, Hindustan Paper Corporation at Assam, Track Machines Unit at Arakkonam, and IOC Refinery at Panipat have been selected for the Shram Shri award that carries Rs. 40,000 in cash and a citation.
