He did it for fame

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI AUG. 15. Balbir Singh, the Shatrughan Sinha look-alike who was arrested on Thursday for breaching Parliament security on August 8, has alleged that he committed the offence at the instance of a television news channel which said it would make him famous and also promised to secure him a meeting with the Union Shipping Minister.

During interrogation, he said the news channel told him the programme was meant to spot holes in Parliament security. "He claimed that the news channel had also promised a meeting with Mr. Sinha, which never occurred," said a police officer.

Mr. Balbir Singh was arrested on Thursday on the basis of a First Information Report lodged by a Security Assistant, Dinesh Singh, who was suspended for failing to stop him from entering the Parliament complex. In his complaint, Mr. Dinesh Singh also alleged that the intrusion was apparently planned in collusion with the news channel.
