The police said the play directed by the School of Drama Assistant Director, Ramachndran Mokeri, was being staged in the city without taking prior permission. The team had come to the city to perform with the accompaniment of drum concerts and publicly displaying meat pieces in a hand-cart. Initially the police tried to restrain the troupe saying that the Youth Affairs Minister, M.A. Kuttappan, was taking salute at the Independence Day parade then. But when the troupe again tried to perform after the official Independence Day functions were over, the police arrested them for obstructing traffic and presenting street performances without prior notice. The police said they had also registered a case against the drama troupe for displaying meat pieces in public as it went against the High Court order in this regard. There were 18 persons in the troupe including Mr. Ramachandran. While 12 of them were drama school students, the remaining five were the people of Laloor area. The police also seized the drums and the hand-cart brought by the drama troupe. They were later released on bail after the intervention of the drama school Director, Vayala Vasudevan Pillai, and the CPI(M) leader, M. Muraleedharan.
