CPI(M), AIDWA condemn Tripura killings

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI AUG. 15. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) today denounced the killing of 30 persons in Khowai sub-division in Tripura by terrorist gangs. It demanded that the Centre deploy immediately the Army in the disturbed areas of the State and restore the paramilitary forces which were withdrawn after the Assembly elections.

The CPI(M) politburo said nine extremist organisations in the north-east had jointly called for a boycott of the Independence Day. The All-Tripura Tiger Force which was allegedly behind the attack last night was one of the organisations which gave the call.

The party said the crime of murdering poor Scheduled Caste people showed the "diabolical nature of these extremist organisations.''

Demanding the deployment of the Army, the Politburo said that the borders must be manned by augmenting the Border Security Force. The matter should be taken up with the Bangladesh Government to see that the extremist camps across the border were closed down, it said.

Heinous attack: AIDWA

The All-India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) condemned the heinous attack on Scheduled Caste hamlets and demanded that the Centre take steps to check such attacks.

The party general secretary, Brinda Karat, demanded that there should be an intervention at the highest level with the Bangladesh Government to close down the terrorist camps in that country; send the Army to disturbed areas in Tripura; augment the BSF and complete fencing of the border within a given timeframe.

The AIDWA urged all its State committees to protest against the massacre of women and children and demand that the Central Government send adequate forces to Tripura.
