Bush deserves praise: Swamy

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI AUG. 16. "The U.S. Government, and President Bush in particular, should be congratulated for extracting from the Libyan Government a de facto apology (accepting of responsibility and swearing to renounce terrorism), and $2.7 billion in fines as compensation for the blowing up of the PanAm 747 Boeing passenger jet over Lockerbie area in 1988," the Janata Party president, Subramanian Swamy, said today.

In a statement released here, he said: "The relentless pursuit by the U.S. Government of this terrorist outrage to bring to justice the culprits, and subdue the patrons of the terrorists who had carried out the murderous perfidy, should make all those who oppose terrorism appreciate and laud the U.S. Government's resolve to defend the security of its citizens. India should learn from this, and pursue the LTTE for the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi."

Dr. Swamy criticised Sonia Gandhi for not being "bothered about... the challenge to India's sovereignty that the assassination represents."
