AI earns profit of Rs. 133.85 cr.

By Our Special Correspondent

MUMBAI AUG. 16. Air-India has made a profit of Rs. 133.85 crores in the fiscal ending March 2003, after taking into account the deferred tax benefit. Last year, its net profit was Rs. 15.44 crores.

The figures were taken on record by the Air-India Board at its meeting held in New Delhi earlier today. Air-India's total revenue was Rs. 5,658 crores in the year against Rs. 5,017 crores in the previous year.

The airline ferried 3.39 million passengers during the year and achieved a load factor of 71.6 per cent, substantially higher than the 66 per cent load factor recorded in the preceding year.

The Board, which deliberated on the low-cost operations proposed by the airline with a view to reducing operational costs, sought a more comprehensive report from the in-house committee identifying flights that could be transferred from Air India to Air India Charters Limited, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Air India.
