Bandh hits life in Tripura

Agartala Aug. 16. Normal life was hit in Tripura today as shopkeepers downed their shutters, markets were closed and vehicles remained off the roads to mark the dawn-to-dusk bandh called by major political parties to protest against the killing of 30 persons by militants on Independence Day-eve. Schools and colleges also did not register any turn-out. The ruling Left Front had called the bandh to press for a five-point charter of demands, including deployment of Army in the disturbed areas. The Opposition Congress called the bandh against the Left Front's alleged failure to provide security to the common people and collapse of law and order.
